Is this a cold sore or just a zit?

OK so my boyfriend and I have been dating for about a year. He has always gotten cold sores/fever blisters even as a kid (He doesn't have herpes or any kind of sores below the belt). so it's basically just the type 1 of the virus (which I understand is common in many people). Well I've never gotten one but today I looked in the mirror and I saw what I think is a tiny blister thing like what he has sometimes but smaller, it's not on my lip though, but rather above the skin of my lip (its not even touching the border of my lip). I always thought cold sores are on the lip? it doesn't hurt at all i don't recall ever feeling a tingling sensation or anything. i dabbed some Carmex on it since i couldn't think of anything else to put. I am generally careful about kissing him or having him perform oral on me when he has an outbreak, but its possible to get it in between outbreaks so now i'm freaking out i washed myself down there when i got home after noticing the thing on my lip and now idk what to do.
