My best friends girlfriend tried to commit suicide?

he's really in love with her and she tried to commit suicide by cutting herself then trying to drown herself. she's really sick and in and out of the hospital all the time (they don't know whats wrong with her, but she went to the ER a while back and was hospitalized for about a week on IVs and such. don't know what happened exactly). he doesn't know how to deal with it. any advice would be helpful. he's my best friend and i hate seeing him laying in bed all day. i've never seen him cry, he's pretty unemotional but i walked in on him crying.. i just want to make him feel better. help?
