Do I have herpes? Please help?

So I liked a guy for a long time.. We've been close friends for while and recently got into a relationship and i fell in love. He's amazing But I just broke up with him the other day because he confessed to me that he has herpes.. I only kissed him a few times. I'm 20 years old, but I like to take things slow.. so we did. But when we had sex the one time.. he wore a condom so we were safe.. but could I have herpes? I didn't give him oral or anything.. and he told me when we had sex he wasn't having an "outbreak." & that night I didn't see anything so i believe him.. I'm just really paranoid.. help?
